Derby Descends Into Chaos As Dunton Player Attacks Referee

Saturday’s local derby between Stourgate Town and Dunton Town ended in chaos after a Dunton player attacked the referee in the closing minutes.

Dunton were trailing 7-4 when defender James Hilly confronted referee Colin Rudd over a disallowed goal and struck him. Players from both sides became involved and a large brawl broke out on the pitch, delaying the match for several minutes before order was restored. During the melee several players frighteningly did some kung fu fighting. Several wrestling and tae kwan do bouts also broke out and Dunton’s Ranjit Singh defeated Alex Miller of Stourgate on points.

The match was allowed to continue and finished 12-6 to Stourgate. Dunton Town said in a statement that the club took the incident “extremely seriously” and that Mr Hilly would face an internal disciplinary process alongside any action taken by the league. East Kent Police said they were aware of the incident but that no formal complaint had been made. They said officers retain a full range of enforcement powers in relation to the incident, up to and including the death penalty, though a spokesperson stressed this was not currently being considered.
