The Golden Plaice Named Stourgate's Best Chip Shop

The Golden Plaice on Cinder Lane has been named Stourgate’s best chip shop for the third year running, following a reader poll run by the Bugle.
Owner Barry Nolan said he was proud to have served generations of Stourgate regulars over the years. Asked about famous faces who had eaten at the counter, he mentioned a few. “Ray Barnes comes in most weeks. Good bloke, bit angry sometimes, but he always tips.” Not everyone left as good an impression. “Steve Helman used to come in a fair bit too. Never paid me once in three years. Complete wanker, that one.”
Mr Nolan said the shop’s batter recipe had not changed since it opened, and had no plans to change it now.
