Health Inspectors Called To The Golden Plaice

Environmental health officers visited The Golden Plaice on Cinder Lane this week after a number of customers reported feeling unwell after eating there.

The inspection resulted in a hygiene rating of zero, the lowest available, though the shop remains open pending a full review. Inspectors reportedly recovered the remains of a fly, a spider, a bird, a cat, a dog, a cow, a horse, a Vauxhall Viva, and a chip during the visit.

Owner Barry Nolan said he had cooperated fully with the inspection and was confident the shop would be cleared. “We’ve been open on this spot for years without a single complaint,” he said. “I don’t know what’s caused this, but it’s not the batter, the batter hasn’t changed.”

The council said the results of the inspection would be published in due course, and that the shop had not been asked to close in the meantime.
